Ball Valve Design Automation for a Leading Valve Manufacturing
Company
Revolutionizing Valve Design: Automated Solutions for Enhanced Efficiency and Accuracy with Creo Customization

Client Background
Since its inception in 1987, the client has been manufacturing a wide range of valves, including butterfly, gate, ball, globe, dual plate, and lift check valves. These products are designed to meet international specifications and are known for their high standard of design and accuracy. The client holds a significant market share in India's process industry and exports to countries such as the UK, USA, Germany, South-East Asia, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
Pre-implementation Status
As the client is in the business of manufacturing of variety of Valves, its design department follows the stringent process adhering to the International standards.
Currently the Design Team uses Solidworks software for Modelling and Detailing of these valves. However, the client was deciding to switch to CREO Design Software.
Besides, the Design Department is also maintaining a configurator in MS Excel, which from which the design team derives the logics for the Design of their products.
However, due to the limitations of Excel based system it is intricate to derive all the complex logics manually.
Need Analysis
The client faced following challenges in Manual Design Workflow for Design of Ball Valves:
Business Growth & Increased Workload:
Rapid expansion has led to a higher volume of design projects, increasing the workload on the design team.
The team excels at creating complex engineering drawings, but manual processes slow down productivity.
Current Design Software & Limitations:
The manual workflow is prone to human errors, leading to design inconsistencies and rework.
Requirement for Design Automation:
A Design Automation Solution is needed to streamline operations, improve productivity, and reduce cycle time.
Automation would enable hassle-free design execution while ensuring precision and efficiency.
Integration of Configurator System:
The existing configurator in MS Excel has limitations in handling complex design requirements.
The automation solution would incorporate the configurator for enhanced flexibility and efficiency.
PARAM developed a design automation solution for the client's ball valves. This web-based solution, is customized to produce outputs in Creo Design Software.
Our Solution: GA Layout & Base Frame Drawing Automation
The Ball Valve Design Automation Software automatically perform all complex calculations based on the customer requirements, and the integrated configurator and generate the desired outputs in CREO software.
Process Flow:
Project Details Interface: Allows entry of project details such as SO number, project number, customer name, and project description. Interactive Input Process: Captures design-related information such as NPS specification and pressure class, and calculates ball diameter based on predefined logic.
Ball Valve Configuration Screen: Provides multiple parameters to decide the ball valve configuration.
Automatic Generation of Creo Models: Generates part drawings with detailing and notes, assembly drawings with BOM, and models for casting and machining parts.
Standard BOM Generation: Provides a standard BOM for the project, available for download in MS Excel format, compatible with the client's ERP system.
Data Management: Saves data as per the SO number, allowing users to view old data for any SO.
OUR SUCCESS STORY
Faster design of ball valves.
Improved accuracy due to a fully automated process.
Significant improvement in delivery time.
Reduced repetitive data entry.
Considerable reduction in manufacturing rejections due to manual errors, boosting productivity.
The success of this solution has streamlined the client's design process, enhancing efficiency and accuracy while reducing cycle times and errors.
